Georgia Tech’s campus poses a special challenge to the new student since many of its buildings are best accessed via the unnamed paths and alleys that run through the campus—byways that pose a mystery to the newcomer. The Interactive Campus Envoy was developed to help students get around the Georgia Tech campus quickly and efficiently. During this term-long team project in user-centered design we studied the ways people travelled the campus, prototyped several different designs and surveyed the users to see which one they liked best. Our PDA-based, GPS-equipped application is only a prototype but we equipped it with working buttons as well as gestures--that's Zoom In and Zoom Out below the prototype. We had users evaluate it against the current web-based campus interactive map. Guess which one won?
